Colsaerts shines in the Volvo World Match Play

Colsaerts shines in the Volvo World Match Play The Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts has inscribed his name for the first time in the history of the winners of the Volvo World Match Play Championship in its 47 years of existence, winning the final (two holes) to Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, in tournament held Finca Cortesin (Malaga).

Colsaerts, who won the China Open in his first European Tour title, cemented his victory in a "birdie" (hole 6), an "eagle" (in 3), ten "even" (1,2,5, 8,10,11,13,14,16 and 18), five "bogeys" (7,9,12,15 and 17) and a double "bogey" (4).

The new winner of the Volvo World put the tie in their favor from holes 11 and 13, which was Colsaerts two above, which partly neutralized the "birdie" McDowell (14), although increased in the 16 (a couple of "bogey" of Northern Ireland), a difference that remained, with some uncertainty, to the end.

Graeme McDowell, who in 2010 became the first European winner of U.S. Open after 40 years, for his victory at Pebble Beach, totaled pairs (1,2,4,5,6,7,9,10, 17 and 18), two "birdies" (3 and 14) and six "bogeys" (8,11,12,13,15 and 16).

To reach the final qualifying Colsaerts went to Justin Rose (RSA), Brandt Snedeker (USA) and Paul Lawrie (ESC), while McDowell did after leaving eliminated Richard Finch (ENG), Sergio Garcia (ESP) and Rafa Cabrera (ESP),

Thus Nicolas Colsaerts linked his name to the history of the Volvo World in highlighting greatly Ernie Els (seven wins), followed by Severiano Ballesteros and Gary Player (five each), and Greg Norman (three). The first winner of the Volvo was the American Arnold Palmer, and the last edition of the English Ian Poulter.

Endowed with EUR 2,750,000, the winner has received 700,000 euros, 360,000 runner-up, while the semifinalists (losers) 180,000 for the quarter-finals of 92,500, 70,000 and knockout the 50,000 eliminated in the first phase.

They have participated in this tournament 24 players from England, Japan, South Africa, Scotland, Belgium, Germany, Australia, Spain, Colombia, United States, Denmark and Sweden.
